How do you have a weight loss of 440 .lbs and gain it back in 60 minutes?

Try donating to Goodwill and having them turn their backs on company policy!  After all my hard work and research throughout multiple website and companies, I was under the impression that Goodwill had a policy that made use of 99% clothes.  Here’s what I thought was going to happen […]

Second floor 50% clean, let there be light

The saturday before Father’s Day, I spent the entire time to clean the second floor bedrooms and just listened to Podcasts.  There wasn’t a whole lot of unique finds.  Mostly the material is made up of clothes and old toys from the 80’s & 90’s.  Aparently all the really old stuff ended up in the store.  It’s almost like reverse packing.  The easiest access point filled up first and as time went on and the place got more filled, the owners had to go farther and farther back.  I will bet the newest stuff is in the room I’m currently cleaning, the far back of the second floor… […]

You can actually see the second floor’s floor!

Dividing the time between actually doing the work of cleaning the place up and documenting it for this blog feels like a job.  That’s no fun.  After the last post’s weight loss, there has been plenty of room to work and lot’s has been going on.  The main room on the second floor has been completely cleared out, really showing off the square footage! […]

I feel about 800 lbs lighter today! Loosing weight feels great and this is probably not the weight loss you’re used to seeing. I know it’s been quite some time since the last update, but that’s just life. After all, isn’t it better to be out living life and doing things than stuck at a computer writing? Now that I’ve got some down time, I’ll fill you in on what’s been happening at 49 Columbia and everything else on my mind.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of craziness. […]

Kitchen and WC clean up completed, plus a couple finds

Cleaning and organizing the kitchen and water closet went buy relatively quickly.  I’m not sure if it was because I spent longer blocks of time here with less distractions or if it’s because the space is only half the size of the store.  Either way it’s done and over with and I’m ready to move upstairs. This whole clean up thing is really starting to get old.

With the Store about 99% done, I’m moving on to the next area which is the “Kitchen” and Water Closet. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen.  As if the people who lived here just up and left.

There are a couple shelves above the toilet containing a plethora of prescriptions, hygiene, and beauty products all dating from 1950’s-60’s.  It’s amazing. […]

One room, one week, four bags of garbage, ultimate finds!

I have to admit, at first glance and going back to my original walk thru video, I thought there would have been more trash thrown out.  I swear I’m being more vigilant here than even at my own home where not every bit of recyclable material makes it to the bin.  My first two bags were just a bit of everything because I couldn’t even find a place to keep sorted materials.  Eventually I found […]

I can see it, the place is taking shape.
I can feel it.  The warmth and light coming in from the newly opened windows.

Thumbs up.

Enough poetry, lets get down to business.  Today was […]

Can I clean this place “green”?

3 May

Finally, the question I’ve been asking myself since I first bought this place; “Can I empty this place and rebuild ‘Green’?”

Store workbench
Does all of this have to go in a landfill?

I’ve set a personal goal to clear the contents of the place as “green” as possible.  I’ve only filled two garbage bags so far and that was only to give myself some breathing room.  I literally wasn’t even walking on the floors there was so much stuff.  Now that I can start micro visualizing cleaning this place, I need to create an area out back that can store some bins.  One for each material; plastic, metal, glass, & wood.  These bins will be emptied at the transfer station less than a mile  away.  Anything that had to be bagged and trashed, will.  Things that I can sell, donate, or reuse, will.

This blog is a community page, everyone so far has nothing but good things to say and best wishes for the project, so I’m asking everyone of you to step up and help make this a “green” cleaning.  Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please leave your suggestions and comments below.

A day of cleaning, almost 6 hours non stop

After shooting two weddings over the weekend, I took some time off from one job to concentrate on another.

I attempted to get started a couple weeks ago.  Walking around the outside, picking up the litter, new and old.  Having one garbage can with a liner for the trash, another for all the rusted metal scattered around the place.  I managed to […]
